In partnership with NewFest, Rooftop Films, and HBO Documentary Films, the BID is hosting our first screening in a new series, Movies on the Cobbles. Join us on June 5 in Gansevoort Plaza for the NYC premiere of THE STROLL. This HBO Documentary Films’ movie tells the history of the Meatpacking District from the perspective of the transgender sex workers who lived and worked here.

Meet filmmaker and director Kristen Lovell, who walked “The Stroll” for a decade, as she joins us alongside co-director Zackary Drucker and producer Matt Wolf.

In the face of adversity, like many transgender women of color of that era, Kristen finds herself navigating the challenging world of sex work in the Meatpacking District to survive.

Within the boundaries of "The Stroll," a gathering place where trans women come together for their livelihood, a profound sisterhood emerges. Bound by shared experiences, they unite to shield one another from the relentless waves of harassment and violence. But this story is not solely about transgender life; it is a poignant reflection of the harsh realities of gentrification.

Delve into this heart-wrenching documentary that sheds light on the unimaginable trials and unyielding police harassment faced by trans sex workers during the Giuliani era.

Yet, even in the face of formidable opposition, Kristen and her sisters rise up against the forces that threaten their very existence.

While they may no longer have The Stroll, they stand firmly at the forefront of a burgeoning civil rights movement. Their unwavering resilience and unbreakable sisterhood echo throughout this new era of visibility.

Kristen and her community serve as a powerful reminder that trans women of color and sex workers have paved the way for future generations. They are the trailblazers who have shaped history, and through their enduring spirit and unity, they continue to flourish.

Seating opens at 7PM.
