HONORING JUNETEENTH THROUGH CULINARY ARTS

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is a federal holiday that commemorates the day Texans were informed that enslaved people were finally free. This year, Platform by JBF in Pier 57 is hosting two special events that delve into African American flavors and heritage to honor Juneteenth through the culinary arts.

“Juneteenth Culinary Traditions” hosted by Jessica B. Harris and Scott Alves Barton, will take place on Saturday, June 17 at 6:30 PM. Reserve a spot: here.

At this event, participants embark on a captivating journey through African American cuisine in conversation with James Beard Award winner Dr. Jessica B. Harris and professor Scott Alves Barton. This gathering aims to shed light on the historical context of Juneteenth while exploring the flavors and ingredients that have shaped African American culinary traditions.

The "Juneteenth Jubilee Dinner” is a culinary extravaganza led by Top Chef finalist, Olympian, and James Beard Award finalist, Chef Dawn Burrell. With her expertise and creativity, Chef Burrell aims to celebrate the essence of Juneteenth through a culinary manifestation of love, tradition, and innovation.

Both events offer a unique opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussions, learn from experts, and savor delectable dishes that embody the spirit of Juneteenth.
