Myrlande Constant: Textile Artist
Myrlande Constant is a Haitian-born artist whose captivating and emotive works have earned her recognition and acclaim throughout the art world. Constant's journey as a creator began at a young age when she started drawing on walls and scraps of paper around her home in Port-au-Prince. She later attended the renowned Ecole Nationale des Arts in Haiti, where she honed her skills in painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Known for incorporating symbols of mythology and folklore into her art, Constant’s work with Drapo, a traditional Haitian art form that involves the creation of intricate and colorful cloth tapestries, is breathtaking in its detail, craftsmanship, and scale.
Earlier this Winter, Fort Gansevoort exhibited a collection of Constant’s Drapo work receiving rave reviews from critics and art enthusiasts alike.
