LILYSILK’s First U.S. Store Lands in Meatpacking
Timeless fabrics meet modern vision as Alexander Meder, Vice President & General Manager of LILYSILK Retail & Wholesale, guides us through the Hudson Street concept store and explains how Grade 6A mulberry silk, lounge-inspired design, and a touch of Meatpacking energy are redefining everyday luxury.
Step through the doors at 654 Hudson Street and the city’s buzz softens into the hush of mulberry silk and cashmere. LILYSILK’s debut U.S. concept store feels more like a private salon than a boutique: mirrored curves, jade-green carpet, restored vintage furniture, and a bar where companions can sip while you browse. Vice President & General Manager Alexander Meder designed it that way—to let the pieces “float,” spotlight the brand’s eco-conscious craftsmanship, and show how timeless luxury can live comfortably in modern New York.
LILYSILK is known for timeless elegance and elevated essentials—how would you describe the brand's philosophy in your own words?
LILYSILK embraces the philosophy of "Live Spectacularly," firmly believing that "Not all silk is equal." Our silk is carefully sourced from the world's finest natural mulberry silk and crafted with an eco-conscious approach. By blending classic luxury with sustainable practices, we ensure harmony between our products and the environment. From material selection to craftsmanship, every step of the process reflects our commitment to sustainable elegance, bringing consumers a truly exceptional silk experience.
What sets LILYSILK apart in terms of quality and craftsmanship?
LILYSILK uses high-quality materials like Grade 6A mulberry silk, and their products are designed to be comfortable and durable as well as breathable in various mommes. Mommes being a unit of measurement defining the weight and density of silk. Higher momme silk tends to be more opaque, longer-lasting and has a softer hand-feel. LILYSILK also prioritizes on sustainability and ethical practices, with certifications from organizations like OEKO-TEX and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).
This is LILYSILK's first U.S. concept store—why was Meatpacking the right place to bring that vision to life?
It just clicked because the "new" Meatpacking District provides that old town cobblestone vibe with the modern industrial architectural aesthetic paired with already existing retail. We saw the immense potential showcasing LILYSILK to both local clientele and visitors both domestic and foreign.
The space feels more like a lounge than a traditional boutique. What was your intention behind the store design?
Today's retail environment thrives on customer experience. With that, I wanted to provide for a space which allows for an area for friends and family who accompany our clients to bridge their time and allow our clients to shop in a relaxed mode. Simultaneously I wanted the store to be a blank canvas, allowing LILYSILK's designs to take center stage with the racks creating this feeling of the merchandise floating and the wardrobes giving you that familiar feel of your home.
What does the future look like for LILYSILK—and how do you see the Meatpacking store shaping that journey?
LILYSILK's concept store serves as a template for future stores showcasing LILYSILK's ever expanding product categories which will lead to larger stores with a complete vision of what LILYSILK will offer on a global scale.
