Wound of Absence

In this new body of work, David Mellen blurs the line between abstraction and figuration, exploring the liminal space between what is known and what remains elusive.

When

Saturday, June 14 | 3 PM - 5 PM

Where

Ivy Brown Gallery, 675 Hudson St, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10014

The title Wound of Absence reflects this duality—the wound as something tangible and recognized, the absence as what cannot be fully grasped. Through this lens, Mellen’s paintings inhabit a charged space between presence and loss, clarity and ambiguity.

Resisting easy categorization, Mellen’s work is both gestural and psychological. His paintings exist in an emotional register that defies definition, inviting viewers to experience rather than decode. This exhibition marks a continued evolution in his exploration of intuition, form, and mystery.
