AAPI x Pearl River Mart Tabletops
Throughout May, our collaboration with Pearl River Mart pays homage to the significant contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) pioneers in Hollywood. Under the title "YOUNG HOLLYWOOD WAS ASIAN: THE PIONEERS WHO MADE MOTION PICTURES," six distinct designs grace our tabletops, each featuring archival photographs showcasing notable figures from the AAPI community who played pivotal roles in shaping the landscape of cinema.
Among those featured are James Wong Howe, an Oscar-winning cinematographer, and Sessue Hayakawa, who is recognized as Hollywood's first AAPI heartthrob. Also honored is Filipina movie star Elena Jurado, whose talent paved the way for future generations of AAPI actors and actresses.
From May 1 to May 31, these designs will be displayed on our outdoor tables throughout Meatpacking, inviting the community to immerse themselves in the montage of AAPI history within motion pictures. Through this collaboration, we not only celebrate the achievements of these remarkable individuals but also strive to amplify their voices, ensuring that their legacies endure and inspire for years to come.
