LIGHTS ON THE COBBLES: MEATPACKING’S FIRST-EVER HOLIDAY INSTALL

BY Meatpacking BIDPUBLISHED 12.15.2021

An electrified colonnade covered in 1762’ feet of neon rope lighting, lit reeds and rows of mirrors, 10 larger-than-life geometric snowpeople, 49 frozen dandelion lights in planters all along our cobblestone plazas = Meatpacking’s first ever holiday installation.

When coming to Meatpacking this winter, you’ll be greeted by bright white neon lights in abstract curling shapes on Gansevoort Plaza, larger-than-life snowpeople and glowing dandelions along Ninth Avenue and 14 Street Square.

The whimsical elements were all brought to life by Theresa Rivera Design, a New York-based production and design studio. With a passion for florals and a unique eye for design, Theresa Rivera has earned the studio a name among clientele including, but not limited to, The New York Times/T Magazine, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Gucci, Refinery 29, Christian Dior, and many more, for commercial projects and events.

Lights on the Cobbles is not the first time the Meatpacking District has worked with Theresa Rivera. At the beginning of the pandemic, Theresa painted the colorful murals on storefronts around the neighborhood to bring a piece of positivity during a dark time. Theresa also was the designer of the Meatpacking installation at the 2021 Flower Show.

The Colonnade set on Gansevoort Plaza this season may also look familiar. The colonnade structure was built by re-ply, a pop-up outdoor dining architecture firm born during the pandemic, first arrived in the Meatpacking District the Flower Show and is now being repurposed for the holiday season. It serves as the perfect place for a festive photo opp, or to sit and enjoy a hot beverage!
