Baccarat’s Wild Crystal Exhibition Is One of the Meatpacking District’s Best Hidden Gems

One of my favorite parts of working in the Meatpacking District is discovering places I never expected to find. I'm surrounded by art, fashion, hospitality, and design every day, but what I love most are those little moments you stumble upon just by walking the district and being curious enough to open a door.

Baccarat is one of those places.

You walk through this immaculate boutique full of chandeliers, barware, and crystal chess sets just to discover this little nook in the rear of the boutique. It’s part lounge, part event space, and right now it’s dedicated to the color blue.

The private exhibition, Wild Crystal, features a collection of crystal sculptures created using Baccarat’s historic lost-wax casting technique. For a house so synonymous with its signature red, seeing these works in luminous shades of blue feels unexpected in the best way. It’s quiet, intimate, and the kind of place that invites you to slow down for a moment.

Among the sculptures are three striking horses, a nod to 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse—a year associated with momentum, reinvention, and bold energy. Whether you follow the symbolism or not, the collection is a beautiful reminder of the energy we set out to embrace this year and carry with us through the months ahead.

Of course, the horses are only one part of the experience. One of the things I appreciate most about the Baccarat boutique is how generous the team is with their knowledge. Whether you’re speaking with George, Bailey, Tinoy, or another member of the team, they’re genuinely excited to share the stories behind the pieces. You start by admiring a sculpture and somehow end up learning about crystal, craftsmanship, heritage, and centuries-old techniques. That's my favorite kind of luxury experience. You leave not necessarily with an object or a product, but with a deeper appreciation for something you didn't know before.

It all begins with Baccarat's centuries-old lost-wax casting technique. Each sculpture begins as a hand-sculpted wax model; the wax is encased in a mold before being melted away, leaving behind a perfect impression. Molten crystal is then poured into the cavity, capturing every intricate detail of the original sculpture. Once cooled, the mold is removed, and the crystal is meticulously finished by Baccarat’s master artisans. Reserved for some of the Maison’s most exceptional creations, the process is a remarkable reminder that true craftsmanship still takes time.

Almost a full year ago, I was thrilled to see Baccarat choose the Meatpacking District for its New York home and welcome them to the neighborhood, and this exhibition is another reminder of why it fits so naturally here. It’s elegant without feeling intimidating, and it’s the kind of experience that makes you fall in love with the neighborhood all over again.
