Ebru Yildiz, King of All the Land, Skeleton Key Press & What Remains

King of All the Land is the second book by New York-based photographer Ebru Yıldız, showcasing a remarkable collaboration with the enigmatic musician Mitski. Widely known for her emotionally resonant lyrics and live performances, Mitski possesses a unique ability to convey complex emotions that align seamlessly with Yıldız’s intuitive approach to photography. This book delves into Yıldız’s distinct perspective, creative exploration, and dedication to reimagining the portrayal of women.

The photographs within this meticulously crafted volume capture three autumn days near Nashville, where Yıldız and Mitski followed their instincts, broke free from traditional expectations, and inhabited a space between the imaginary and the documentary. While the shoot began with specific parameters, it evolved into a fluid exchange, with the artists creating moments that evoked the spirit of musical improvisation. As a result, Mitski’s exceptional performative skills translate beautifully to the page, drawing inspiration from Butoh, the Japanese avant-garde dance form that originated in 1959.

Ebru Yıldız is a New York-based portrait photographer originally from Turkey. Her portrait style, which reveals the vulnerability and emotional depth of her subjects, has gained her particular recognition within the music industry, working with many notable and culturally significant artists. In November 2025 Yıldız released her second photography book - King of All the Land - in collaboration with the artist Mitski and co-published by Skeleton Key Press and What Remains. Her first self released photo book We've Come So Far: The Last Days of Death By Audio, chronicles the closing of the beloved Brooklyn DIY music venue. In addition to editorial work for publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Creative Independent and Pitchfork, Yıldız has produced significant personal projects. She received a grant from Turkish Cultural Foundation for her long form photo essay on Istanbul’s underground music scene. Her limited-edition zine series Phosphene offers another layer to her practice, focusing on intimate, single-subject photo essays.

Sacha Lecca is a photographer and a photo editor. He is currently the Deputy Photo Editor at Rolling Stone magazine, working with the storied magazine since 2007, preceded by stints at CMP Media, the Guggenheim Museum, and Newsweek magazine. He is also the Chief Shortlister and Global Ambassador for the esteemed Abbey Road Music Photography Awards, having been involved since its inception.

His photography has been featured in Rolling Stone, Huck, Whalebone, Alt Citizen, The Photographic Journal, American Photography (various), and on multiple album covers. He has appeared on Icon: Music Through The Lens, a six-part television series on the history and cultural impact of music photography, on Sky Arts in the U.K. (and PBS in the U.S.) and released The Opposite of Boredom, a photo book put together pre-COVID that has taken on new meaning in life during lockdown, reflecting the longing for live performance and moments in small dark spaces; published by Peanut Press.
