Intern Favorites in Meatpacking
Hello! I’m Charlotte, a second year NYU student studying Urban Design and Architecture. I’m interested in urbanism and design, including placemaking. As the current intern for the Meatpacking BID, I have loved getting to know the many unique places in this neighborhood. From cozy coffee shops to chic rooftop bars, the Meatpacking District has many hidden gems for interns in the city this summer. After much exploring (and taste-testing), I have compiled a list of my favorite intern-friendly spots you won’t want to miss!
Kobrick Coffee
I have become a regular at Kobrick Coffee this summer. The cafe provides plenty of seating and free wifi, making it an ideal work spot. My go-to order is the espresso turmeric chai latte, inspired by the Great Elephant Migration installation in the Meatpacking District last year. Kobrick also serves a full menu. The outdoor seating area is perfect for a summer night out with friends.
Puttery
Puttery offers a one-of-a-kind experience you can’t find anywhere in the city. Two themed mini golf courses, four bars, and stunning rooftop views – what else could you ask for! Such a cool and unique space to explore.
The Whitney
I enjoy ending my week with a visit to the Whitney Museum. The museum offers free admission every Friday night from 5 PM to 10 PM. Special programming on Friday nights includes live music, gallery tours, and art-making workshops, all included with admission. Afterwards, I’ll stop next door for a late night snack of fried pickles at Shake Shack. The fried pickles are my favorite!
The Standard Soda Shop
The Standard Soda Shop transports me back to the diners I went to as a child growing up in New Jersey. Spiked classic soda drinks make it both a fun and nostalgic experience to enjoy with friends. Here till the end of the summer, the Soda Shop is a must-try!
Little Island
Little Island is one of my favorite outdoor spaces in the city. After spending the day in the office, I enjoy a sunset stroll through this exquisite landscape overlooking the Hudson. Surrounded by nature, Little Island feels like an escape from the bustling, noisy city life. Its outdoor amphitheater hosts numerous live performances every month (many of which are free!). I’m super excited to attend “Ladies of Jazz” at the end of the month.
Fabrique Bakery
To appease my sweet tooth, I enjoy pastries at Fabrique Bakery. The Swedish bakery offers a variety of unique handcrafted pastries, including a cardamom bun which has become my new fixation. The cozy, homey atmosphere is the perfect place to unwind after a long day.
